BROOKWOOD SCHOOL

NARRATIVE

Located in the rural outskirts of Cooperstown, the Brookwood School has grown since its inception in 1995 to an enrollment of 120 students with offerings of pre-k thru sixth grade. The school required an expansion to replace modular trailers that were brought in to accommodate increasing enrollment.

The School requested an architectural identity resonant with vernacular architectural traditions. At the heart of the addition is a two story Common Room, which accommodates the entire school population at convocation. Each of the classrooms has a door to the exterior and is suffused with ample natural light. Clerestory windows bring natural light into the corridors. Classrooms have individual temperature controls as well as artificial lighting which is integrated with the natural light.

With the expansion, Brookwood is positioned to only increase the value that it brings to the Cooperstown community. Completion is scheduled for Summer of 06.
